Berlin is a great city and offer an unlimited selection of restaurants, cafes and bars. I will never get tired of trying as many as possible of them, it´s my favourite hobby. But sometimes it´s hard to find a good old German place with typical food or snacks such as my alltime favourite “Bouletten” (English = meat balls). Hackendahl is such a place and I am glad I found it!
Hackendahl (Website) is situated close to Oranienburger Tor and only 10 minutes walking from where I live. I discovered it when I was looking for a place to go with my parents. They like German food the most and the typical Berlin atmosphere (my mother worked in Berlin when she was in her 20ies).
I love the beautiful tile stove (the correct German word is “Kachelofen”) with its ornaments, the vintage chairs and sofas, the candle light at night and the aged look of the walls. Hackendahl has a really cosy and comfy atmosphere.
I can strongly reccomend to try the “Bouletten” with bread slices (the German “Roggenbrot”), butter and gherkin. Super yummy! Hackendahl offers also some other nice snacks such as the “Stulle” (haha that´s a Berlin expression for a piece of bread with butter and typically some cheese or cutted sausage). The beer selection is huge and they have some really cool stuff from all over the world.
On the weekend it´s hard to get a space so I suggest to come here during the week.
