I spent one week together with my boyfriend at the 4* Hotel Sensimar Palm Beach Palace Djerba (Facebook) last September. Purpose of this vacation was only relaxing for one week and just do nothing. After checking all kind of offers for different countries, Tunisia had the best all-inclusive offers.
We booked with HolidayCheck and could take advantage of a 100€ voucher (the 100€ were paid without any problem by HolidayCheck after returning from the trip). Our offer included flight, hotel, transfer, drinks (incl. alcoholic drinks) and meals. For one week we paid 565€ per person, a very good deal.
At first we were a little bit worried about the situation in Tunisia after the terrorist attack in a hotel in Sousse in 2015. We discussed it a lot and then decided to go anyway (our parents didn´t like that!). We had no issues during the trip, everything was calm, people were friendly and we felt safe. The hotel had no high security precautions (everyone could have just walked into the hotel from the beach side since there was no fence).
Sensimar Palm Beach Palace Djerba
Sensimar Palm Beach Palace Djerba is an “Adults-Only” hotel, so perfect if you want to relax and you like it quiet ;). Managed by FTI, the hotel was frequented mainly by German tourists (also the whole stuff was talking mostly German) plus some Russians and French. The hotel is very stylish and everything had a very high quality and was really clean. The service was sometimes a little bit slow (at the restaurant) but overall good and the staff really nice and hepful. In my opinion it could have easily been a 5* hotel.
We were really lucky and got an upgrade for a bigger room with access to a private pool in front of the balcony. The room was very spacious and beautifully designed with white oriental furniture and turquoise highlights (pillows, a bench, …). I love this color combination! The lamps also had an oriental pattern which gave a nice atmosphere at night. The bathroom was big enough as well, equipped with a bathtube and 2 sinks.
Right in front of the hotel, the beach was equipped with enough sun beds, umbrellas and a bar to be confortable. The sea was really blue, clean (just a few algues) and luckily no jellyfishes. Everything was very clean and maintained. If you leave the hotel area and walk on the beach you will see this changing and it get´s more dirty with some trash (what a shame!). There are some beach sellers that want to sell day tours, a camel or horse ride or other activities but we didn´t do any.
I really liked the pool area. There are 2: one big pool and a relaxing pool area that we normally used. There are sun beds inside the water, so you can take nice pics 😉 and relax with a cocktail. In the afternoon the pool bars offered a good coffee, cakes and pastries as well. You can find also hammocks and beach beds with curtains to take a nap, read or sun bathe.
We really liked the food and I can say there was something for everyone´s taste at. Sensimar Palm Beach Palace Djerba offered a lot of variety, different dining options (buffet at the restaurant -breakfast, lunch and dinner-, lunch or dinner à la carte at the snack bar, late breakfast, afternoon coffee/tea with cake, midnight snack, …). There were many options foodwise such as fresh fish, grilled meat, pizza, pasta, oriental & traditional food, cold starters, a huge dessert section and a lot more.
Every night at Sensimar Palm Beach Palace Djerba there was another theme dinner happening, like “Tunesian Night” or a “Black & White Dinner” where people had to come dressed in white and/or black (luckily we had some fitting clothes since we didn´t know). As a highlight we could book one time an à la carte dinner in the gourmet restaurant which was really good and tasty (3-course menue).
The weather overall was really good, sunny, with around 30-35 degrees. We had 2 cloudy days with some rain (but maybe just half an hour).
